Holly Vogl, Morgan Jager, and Annie Witt are advocating for domestic violence for their FCCLA project this year. All three are senior members competing at the state meeting April 10-12, 2022. They are competing in the category National Programs in Action: STAND UP. The FCCLA Stand Up national peer education program guides members to develop, plan, carry out, and evaluate advocacy activities to improve the quality of life in their communities. Members develop their voice to make a positive impact. Through their projects, members experience character development and improve their critical and creative thinking, interpersonal communication, leadership, practical knowledge, and career preparation.
They are currently collecting gently used clothes to donate to the Brookings Domestic Violence Shelter. So far, they have collected 8 garbage bags full of women's and children's clothes. They are also collecting money through a hat day at school, which will take place on Wednesday, March 9, to donate to Safe Harbor in Aberdeen, SD. To further educate students about the issue, they hosted an assembly with a domestic violence advocate, MacKenzie Gerth, from Safe Harbor in Aberdeen. Posters have been hung up around the school to spread more awareness about domestic violence for the rest of the school year.
If you would like to help the cause by making either a clothing or monetary donation, please email any of the following. Thank you.
